Codes and Conventions of the Indie Genre

To be specific for our chosen genre, Indie I will need to anaylse the codes and conventions of Indie music to gain more knowledge of how we will progress on with filming.
Here are the general codes and conventions of our genre:

  • As in all genres, lots of close ups of the artist. For our genre, close ups of the band and their equipment is consistently used to keep the audiences attention.
  • The settings are usually relaxed, for example a forrest. This may differ once the music kicks in properly.
  • Colours of the mise en scene will vary depending on the lyrics, narrative etc. Generally, bright colours aren't really used. And low key lighting is generally the popular choice, unless locations are at a party, gig etc.
  • As the Indie genre can tend to be very random there are no specific locations.
