Keira's Evaluation
My music video develops and conforms to the conventions of this indie music video, as it uses different locations shots and narrative similarly to this music video, we also used black and white colour grading in our music video as they have here and matched the pace of the music to the editing of the video. However, our music video also challenges typical conventions as we have not used performance in our video as shown in this kooks video, infact our band isn't shown at all, this gives an element of curiousity to our audience and makes our video unique as lots of different people are used, So the story is quite disjointed and random, however our lyrics match the visuals which is not done in this indie video. Finally i think we have developed typical conventions by using lots of split screens, fast paced editing and bright colour grading. Our ending is also unique as we have zoomed in untill the screen is black, this is relative unique.
Question three
Initial audience feedback
Initially, we asked 15 people mostly aroung our own age of both sexes what music they thought was popular at the moment, what they enjoyed listening to and what sort of videos they liked amongst other questions to decide what genre of music we would use. We found 13/15 of our participants rated indie as their favourite genre as well as this being rated as the most popular genre at the minute along with dance. As people around 16-18 dominated our questionnaire, this age became our target audience and we decided on using indie as our genre as our participants said it was popular due to "an increase in gigs and festivals" and we found this could be aimed at both sexes, amongst western culture. Which was ideal for our group. We then asked questions about what colours they associated with their favourite genre and if they could give any examples of music videos that had encouranged them to go out and buy an album or they could watch several times. This then gave us an insight into how important it is to find out what your target audience want from your product, so we asked these questions and used the answers to make our product appeal to it's audience.

Ancillary Tasks: Audience Feedback
Keira's feedback
1.All five participants said yes as the poster and album both had clear information abut the band as typical digipaks and posters do, such as the band's name, album name and release date.
2. 1 parcipant said no that the products were good but typical of any other poster and didgipak, however the others mentioned the use of the leaf effect and the four panals and colour grading as interesting and eyecatching as they stood out.
3. all 5 people agreed that the products worked as they were 'eye catching' and used the same fonts and colours throughout so they looked professional and real.
4. They element mainly pointed out as interesting was the leaf effect, as well as two people saying the colour grading of the photogragh was impressive and also the idea of reversing the photograph.
5. All five participants said that the digipak could of contained more information about the publishing and record label, maybe on the back cover in small print, as suggested by one participant as this is trypical of an album case.
6. The brand image was described as 'bright and quirkey', 'simple and sophisticated' and 'a unique, fun, indie style'.
7. All 5 of my participants said there was a clear brand image and this was created through the use of a colour scheme, the same font being used through outout aswell as the reversing of the photogragh to be used again on both front and back cover aswell as the poster and the leaf effect being used on each panal and the poster.
8. Question 7 then meant that 100% of my participants agreed that the brand image did not need to be made stronger.
Laura's Audience Feedback
Here are the most the answers to my audience feedback questionaires summerised into one answer:
1) Do you think the products are typical of album covers/posters? If so in what ways is it similar?
The products are typical of an album cover/poster because they have the band's name, the album name, good use of imagery and a release date.
2) Does anything make it different or does it stand out from the typical? How?
The colours used are different as the photos themselves have been edited. The shots inside the cover were different and the leaves effect caught the eye. The fact that there was no imagery of the band also stood out.
3) Does it work? Why?
It does work because it is good to look at, it gives off the right information you would expect to see on an album cover and poster and it related to the music video.
4) Name two interesting/impressive elements from the ancillary tasks?
The use of colour and photography were the main elements mentioned in the questionaire.
5) Could these products be stronger - if so how?
Yes, maybe more colours used relating back to the music video, this could have also made it look even more individual and eye catching. More effects used maybe.
6) Can you sum up the brand image of this album/band in a short sentence?
The image is definately individual fitting with the genre perfectly creating a style of its own.
7) Can you see a clear brand image? And what creates the clear brand image?
Yes, the photographs used relating back the music video create a clear brand image. So do the colours used and the theme.
8) If not, what could have made the brand image stronger?
You can see a clear brand image.

Audience Feedback: Video
Here is an example of my questionnaire i have picked this one as i think it is a good representative of all five people asked.
1. For question one all participants agreed that the product was typical of a music video and said that the editing fit the music well and the visuals matched well with the lyrics.
Laura's Feedback
I also gave out five questionaires though I only gave them to people between the ages of 17 and 21. Here is a summery of the feedback I reveived from doing so:
1) Two of the questionaires stated that the music video was typical of a music video. This was because the music fit well with the action showing clear story lines with the words used throughout the song. It was also fun to watch which again is typical of a music video. The other three questionaires however stated it was not completely typical of a music video as there was various different story lines used, all quite random, and actions fit with words rather than showing the band themselves lip synching. Some of the editing was also different to what is expecting in a typical music video ie- the reverse shot of a girl walking over the road.
2) All five questionaires picked out points from the music video that made it different. The most common points picked out were the reverse shot of a girl walking accross the road, the banners used holding up words along with split screen of the banners and the many different storylines used.
3) All five questionaires stated that the music video does work as it relates to the music well and is fun to watch making it enjoyable to watch time and time again. One of the questionaires also stated that more shots could have been used however to make the video work even more.
4) Out of the five questionaires completed, the two elements that were seen as being interesting during the music video were how the music fit the lyrics of the music making the audience want to watch more and the split screen used during the chorus of the song as it was different to a typical music video.
5) Three of the questionaires agreed that more settings and characters were needed to make the video stronger, the other two questionaires stated that more shots were needed to keep interest at the beginning of the music video.
6) Each questionaire gave the same answer for this question, the pace of the music video is typical for this kind of product as the actions keep in time with the rhythm.
7) The genre of the music video was picked out by all the questionaires answered as it was Indie. The audience could tell this from the song itself, the settings, actions and storylines used and the non-typical elements to the music video ie- split screen, reverse shot of girl ect.
In conclusion I think the music video was successful in entertaining and providing the elements needed to make an Indie music video.
Viki's Feedback
Like the other members of my group, I also gave out five of the same questionnaires, I gave them to people aged between 16 and 20, males and females so my results would not be one sided.
1) Two of the participants said it was typical of a music video as they said they could watch it over and over again, but they still wouldn't get bored of it.
2) Three of the participants stated that our music video was not typical of one you would usually watch, they said this because not once through the entire video do we see the artists face, all we see are random shots and different story lines.
3) All my participants said that our music video worked very well, they all said they liked how the lyrics of the song matched with the visuals of the video.
4) The elements that seemed to interest my participants the most were the speeding up of the clouds and the girl walking backwards across the road.
5) 80% of the participants said that the shots on the chorus of the song were repeated too much, however they said that they were well varied therefore they were not bored whilst watching them. Two participants also said that some of the shots were a bit too long.
6) All five of the people who took part in this questionnaire said that the pace of the video was typical of this kind of product, as everything was kept in time with the beat of the music.
7) All five participants answered 'indie' as the genre of the video.
After conducting this questionnaire, i believe that our music video has been a great success. I believe the most succesful part was our editing as this proved to be a big hit with all the participants.

Before and after shots for our front and back cover of digipak and poster
Here is the raw shot we took before editing. We edited the shot twice to create a different effect for the front and back cover changing the gradient and hue and saturation. We also used the front cover of the album on our poster.
