In this task we will plan and investigate a range of album covers which haven't got the artists actually contained on the front cover or in the centre folds etc. From this task we wish to gain more of an understanding as to why this happens and reference these discoveries to our task.
One example of the absence of artists on album covers could be:
Coldplay's "Viva La Vida"
Coldplay’s Viva la vida, released on the 11th June 2008. The album’s title “Viva La Vida” is a Spanish phrase which translates to “Long Live Life”. This is appropriate as the album cover shows life, death and war so the message of “Long Live Life” is a message of hope against today’s society of somewhat despair. The album cover essentially expresses the bands combined creativity and results in this. The album’s art cover is an 1830’s painting created by Eugène Delacroix. He named the piece as Liberty.
Below is the album cover which offers an alternative message in the album name to the artwork used.
In conclusion to the post, we can see that some artists may not use themselves in the album cover as they wish to use a more significant image to demonstrate the connotations of the album which is shown above.
